Jonathan Adler Packaging

It started with a need for boxes to make salt & pepper shakers marketable. Memorable packaging became an extension of the company’s branding. Inspired by mid-century design and the handcrafted details of the product, I designed each of these boxes to give a narrative for the products inside.

Behind the design

Each concept started with a sketch. Smiling whales rendered like old woodblock type posters. Elephants enveloped in paisley. A waddle of penguins. A cat lady’s favorite crocheted blanket. A vintage shoebox for a classic pair of brogues.

Behind the typeface

I created a custom decorative typeface for the Garden of Eden packaging, featuring forked-tongue serifs that gave an extra dose of whimsy.
